McWedding – McDonalds Pursues Wedding Market With Burger Cakes
HONG KONG (LALATE) – Your McMarriage dreams are answered. McDonalds (NYSE: MCD) in Hong Kong will offer McWeddings, they tell local news, wedding ceremonies that will even include burger cakes. The McWedding craze came after local franchise operators reported to local news the demands. Owners said that they were getting ten calls a month from people asking to have their wedding ceremony inside McDonalds.
So McDonalds reps in Hong Kong reveal to the South China Morning Post News that they jumped at the offer to provide McWeddings. The McWedding ceremony (and yes, that is what it is called) will feature a complete McDonalds meal along with options. But the notable addition is a wedding cake which can be made out of the apple pie or even burgers.
McDonald’s Hong Kong director of corporate communications and relations Helen Cheung Yuen-ling tells news the demand has been overwhelming. “Over the past two years, we’ve started receiving calls from people who want to have a wedding party in our restaurants. There are about 10 calls a month. People said they’d dated here, or met here, and wanted to get married here … We see this as a business chance.”
Guests will be able to kiss after a nosh of French fries. Ronald McDonald will be in attendance at weddings, alcohol will not. Insiders think the idea will become yet another filet in the big fish of fast food weddings. Taco Bell, Burger King, and Krispy Kreme already offer similar such weddings with their own respective items.
