Last night, the Associated Press declared Mark Begich the winner in Alaska’s Senate race over indicted felon Ted Stevens. We’re sweeping out the old boy network in Washington and replacing it with new progressive leadership.

This race makes 58 Senators for Obama’s agenda of change, and the 59th race is still being recounted in Minnesota. A special election going on right now in Georgia could be the 60th.

If we get to 60 seats, the right wing will no longer be able to use a filibuster and stand in the way of health care for all, an end to this war, and a real economic recovery package.

The Georgia election is between progressive Democrat Jim Martin, a Vietnam veteran who wants to bring our troops home and supports the Obama agenda for change, and Republican Saxby Chambliss. Chambliss is a master of Karl Rove slash and burn politics. In fact, he’s best known for sliming former Senator Max Cleland, a war hero, with ads tying him to Osama Bin Laden. The contrast could not be clearer….
