Hello,
I’m writing from the production company that did Project Runway and Top Chef. We are casting a new show that will showcase emerging visual artists creating and competing on Bravo. Given the people involved, this project is going to have high impact in the art world. As someone who meets a lot of artists, we are hoping you might find this exciting enough to forward to appropriate people you know and let them know about applying. Open calls are fast approaching.
Thank you for considering forwarding or posting.

Magical Elves (Peabody Award-winning Project Runway, Emmy Award-winning Top Chef) and Sarah Jessica Parker (who has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Art World) (Golden Globe- and Emmy Award-winner) and her production company, Pretty Matches, are teaming up for an hour-long creative competition series among aspiring contemporary artists who will create and compete to conquer the art world!
If you’re an emerging or mid-career visual artist with a unique, powerful voice that demands a bigger stage – well. . . Here. It. Is.
We want contemporary artists. Your medium could be one of many (or several of many) – painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, mixed-media – we want voices that believe in their art and want the world to know.
*To be considered for the cast, attend one of our four regional casting calls around the country, see below.*
Go to www.BravoTV.com/casting to download an application and see what you need to bring with you to an open call.
GOOD LUCK.

The Pez candy company is suing a museum for unauthorized creation of a giant Pez candy dispenser recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, according to published reports.
Pez Candy, Inc. says the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia in Burlingame, Calif. is not licensed to “create, distribute, advertise, market, promote or sell Pez products,” according to the San Mateo Times newspaper. The company is suing to have the working, 7-foot, 10-inch dispenser destroyed, according to published reports, as well as unspecified damages.
The candy company also wants museum owners to get rid of toy truck Pez dispensers that have campaign slogans added to them such as “McCain for Pezident 2008.”

According to several published reports, Magdalena Kwiatkowska returned to Poland after her vacation, and found that her 13-year-old daughter is with child. Kwiatkowska is convinced that her daughter came in contact with a “stray sperm” while swimming in the hotel’s “mixed pool,” TheSun.co.uk reported. She wants compensation from the hotel as a result.
Kwiatkowska maintains that her daughter did not meet any boys while staying at the hotel, and the story said she has already filed a complaint with the Warsaw, Poland tourist authorities and is determined to pursue the case.

The ProjectThese works place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict. The ‘…happily ever after’ is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.
The project was inspired by my observation of three-year-old girls, who were developing an interest in Disney’s Fairy tales. As a new mother I have been able to get a close up look at the phenomenon of young girls fascinated with Princesses and their desire to dress up like them. The Disney versions almost always have sad beginning, with an overbearing female villain, and the end is predictably a happy one. The Prince usually saves the day and makes the victimized young beauty into a Princess.
As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm’s stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney’s perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.
There are 2 more to be shot for this series which is going on exhibit on Oct. 15/09.

Thank you for writing to me about funding for our state parks system. Your input is important to me during these challenging times.
California’s natural beauty is renowned throughout the world, and I have made it my priority to protect our environment so future generations of Californians can continue to experience and enjoy what we have all come to love. Our state parks provide a fantastic introduction to the California experience and help bring our residents and visitors closer to our landscapes.
Unfortunately, the state cannot continue to bear the costs of supporting every program. Believe me when I say that these cuts have been the hardest decisions of my career as Governor, but we are in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression. Our revenues for the coming year are at least 27 percent below where they were projected to be just two short years ago. We now face a shortfall that has grown to $24.3 billion, and the people of California have made their voice clear: they want the state to live within its means and solve its problems through spending cuts and not tax increases.
To help manage our budget shortfall, I have proposed eliminating General Fund support for the Department of Parks and Recreation. I understand that these cuts will impact not only the lives of our park employees but the millions of park visitors who visit these national treasurers every year. In spite of these General Fund cuts, though, I will work to keep as many parks open as possible with funding from user fees. It may require raising entry and camping fees, expanding partnerships with local government and non-profit groups, and seeking additional creative ways to support our system in the future.
As I work with my partners in the Legislature to find solutions to these problems, know I will keep your thoughts in mind. Working together, I believe we can weather this storm and start the slow but steady march back toward prosperity.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger

Now, not only does the Governator wants to sell off the OC fairgrounds, he’s also trying to decrease the California State University system’s funding by upwards of 20% (equivalent of closing a campus) AND shut down a bunch of CA’s state parks – including places like Tahoe, Anza-Borrego (which is like Joshua Tree and is AWESOME), Angel Island, the Santa Cruz Beaches… the list goes on and on and includes up to 200 parks!
What we can do about the parks:

Support for International Change (SIC) SIC believes that the HIV/AIDS crisis creates both an imperative to act and an opportunity to learn. We envision a world where HIV/AIDS no longer limits length or quality of life or reduces the social or economic development of communities, and where young people learn the skills to address the health crises of future generations.
